Marissa Witt-Doerring MD - Director of Branding and Operations

Dr. Marissa is a board-certified psychiatrist and co-founder of TaperClinic, which she started with her husband, Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring. She specializes in the management of psychiatric withdrawal syndromes and safe, individualized tapering. Her most valuable teachers have been her patients—collaborating with them to co-create personalized taper plans and discover novel, patient-driven treatment strategies.

At TaperClinic, Dr. Marissa plays a key leadership role beyond clinical care. She oversees the clinic’s operations, including staffing, marketing, branding, media, and strategic planning. Outside of the clinic, she is committed to raising awareness among fellow clinicians about the risks of rapid discontinuation and the growing prevalence of protracted psychiatric withdrawal.

Her passion for reforming psychiatric education led to the founding of the TaperClinic Luminaries — a global community for current and future prescribers who want to practice psychiatry with greater integrity, safety, and thoughtfulness. Because deprescribing is rarely taught in formal training, Dr. Marissa works to fill that gap, offering mentorship, case supervision, and formal didactics to those rethinking what responsible psychiatric care should look like.

Dr. Marissa completed her residency in general psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine, after initially training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Teaching Award during her time at Baylor. She earned her medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where she was recognized as the top graduating student in psychiatry, and completed her undergraduate studies with honors in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology at Emory University.

Earlier in her training, Dr. Marissa led award-winning quality improvement initiatives and participated in neurological clinical trials—experience that continues to inform her systems-level thinking in psychiatry.
