TaperClinic Luminaries Mentorship

Join a global community transforming psychiatric care.

Led by Dr. Marissa Witt-Doerring, co-founder of TaperClinic, the Luminaries Mentorship Program brings together current and future prescribers from around the world who are committed to practicing psychiatry with greater safety, integrity, and thoughtfulness.

United by a shared philosophy that challenges the status quo in psychiatric medicine, our Luminaries are often isolated within their training institutions or professional communities. Many are eager to learn about deprescribing but lack access to local mentorship or structured guidance. This program exists to change that.

What You'll Gain

A community rooted in curiosity, courage, and clinical precision.
Guided by TaperClinic mentors, Luminaries gain support, connection, and tools to grow as thoughtful, deprescribing-focused clinicians.

Who Is This For?

Whether you’re a high school student considering medicine or an established prescriber seeking a more ethical approach, this program meets you where you are.

Dr. Marissa works with:

  • High school & pre-med students questioning traditional medical norms
  • Medical, PA, PharmD, and NP students evaluating different training paths
  • Psychiatry residents & fellows seeking deprescribing mentorship
  • Licensed prescribers seeking case supervision or peer collaboration

Support includes help with choosing programs, writing personal statements, preparing for interviews, evaluating career paths (MD, DO, NP, PA, PharmD), case supervision, and navigating the tapering process in your clinical work. Formal didactic sessions are also available. There are no geographical limitations – we have members from every continent except Antarctica!

Why This Exists

Dr. Marissa met Dr. Josef at a psychiatry residency interview—one of those rare moments when two critical thinkers in medicine found mutual support. Both were drawn to deprescribing early on and often felt out of place in traditional academic settings. Through this program, Dr. Marissa hopes to offer the same kind of clarity, connection, and encouragement to others who feel the same way.

Thanks to social media, we’re now able to reach trainees and prescribers across the world who share our values but often lack local mentorship or community. The Luminaries Program is our way of building a future in psychiatry that’s rooted in curiosity, integrity, and real patient care.

There is no charge to join. TaperClinic offers this mentorship freely because we believe advocacy and education are essential to changing the system. Supporting the next generation of thoughtful prescribers isn’t an add-on—it’s central to our mission.

Written Testimonials

Matt, Medical Student

I reached out to Dr. Marissa at TaperClinic in my third year of medical school. During my clerkships, observing first hand how the medical system operates, I grew disillusioned by what I was seeing. Added to that was an absence of mentors who challenged the system or even allowed for the difficult questions. In what I thought was a long shot, I reached out hoping to find a mentor who saw the problems I saw, who allowed the tough questions, and sought solutions that addressed the root causes and harms I was seeing done. I found that community and mentorship with TaperClinic Luminaries. I am very thankful for them. I was questioning how I could help as a doctor in this broken medical system. Now I feel like I can see that path forward.

JT, Pharmacy Student

Dr. Marissa and I have had thoughtful discussions about the nuances of psychopharmacotherapy deprescribing, including its perils, pitfalls, and the unique role providers play in facilitating patient improvement. She has mentored me on various integrative options, exploring their potential roles in care while also highlighting their limitations. I value her balanced, patient-centered perspective, neither a blind devotee nor a dismissive critic of psychopharmacology, and never a charlatan of alternative medicine. Her approach has inspired me to adopt a similar perspective as I continue to develop my clinical skills and prepare for my future role in psychiatric care.

James, Premedical Student

I have researched antidepressants for dozens of hours and can confidently say in all of that research, few are as data-current on antidepressants as those in TaperClinic. The wealth of knowledge and clinical experience, as well as the genuine desire to share this life-changing information, makes learning from them very compelling. When I first came to speak with Marissa, I knew I wanted to be a psychiatrist, but I was not sure of the best way to become one, or of the different options psychiatrists might have. After our first conversation, I had rearranged my career path and now felt confident and informed.

Ville, Medical Student

Over the months on the mentorship program I’ve been chatting with Marissa, with whom we’ve shared thoughts on a whole bunch of subjects revolving around health. It’s been very comforting to connect and share concerns regarding patient care and healthcare as a whole with someone on the other side of the globe who views the healthcare system critically (as it should) and understands the flaws it suffers from. Marissa is a very considerate person with a good heart, and I look forward to going through the rest of my med school studies mentored
by her.

Marleen, Pharmacist

I am a pharmacist prescriber establishing a deprescribing service in my local area. I found Dr. Marissa’s details at a pivotal time as I establish myself in this field – she has provided mentorship and clinical expertise which has been invaluable as I build my confidence and own experience. She’s very approachable and I’ve always felt supported in our meetings, no sense of judgement or old-fashioned medical hierarchy which I really appreciate!
